Updated October 30, 2026

Another huge week in AI. Anthropic's IPO filing revealed how fast the company behind Claude is growing, Mistral released one of the biggest open AI models ever, Apple gave Siri a memory, and Google's cloud business more than doubled. Here are the stories that matter, explained simply, and what they mean for you.

1. Anthropic's IPO filing: huge growth and a big (mostly paper) loss

Anthropic's S-1 filing shows it plans to list its shares on the Nasdaq under the ticker "ANT", with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley as underwriters. According to the filing as reported by AI Weekly, revenue in the first half of 2026 reached $16.3 billion, up from roughly $1.2 billion a year earlier, with $11.6 billion in the second quarter alone. The company also reported a net loss of $80.7 billion, but about $72.4 billion of that is a non-cash accounting charge on convertible notes, not money spent. The listing is reportedly expected in mid-November.

Why it matters for you: businesses are paying for AI at a scale nobody predicted a year ago. More competition between Anthropic, OpenAI and Google usually means better tools and more choice for you.

2. Mistral Large 4 goes open: a 1-trillion-parameter model anyone can download

On October 29, French AI company Mistral published the open weights of Mistral Large 4 on Hugging Face. It is a mixture-of-experts model with 1 trillion parameters in total (about 49 billion active), a context window of 1 million tokens, support for text and images, and more than 160 languages. It is released under Mistral's own open-weight license, a modified MIT license, and is also available through Mistral's API and partners such as OpenRouter, Microsoft Foundry and NVIDIA.

Why it matters for you: powerful open models give businesses, especially in Europe, more options to run AI on their own servers, keep data private and lower costs.

3. Siri gets a memory and speaks five new languages

Apple released iOS 27.2 on October 26. Siri AI can now remember past conversations, for example the restaurant it suggested last week, and use more of your personal context, such as photos sent in Messages and people invited to calendar events. A new Excluded Apps setting lets you choose which apps Siri can access. Siri AI now also works in French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, with Chinese (Traditional), Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese coming by year-end. It requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer and is still not available in the EU.

Why it matters for you: personal AI assistants are getting more useful, and privacy controls are becoming important. Take a minute to review which apps you let your assistant read.

4. Google Cloud doubles as AI demand explodes

Alphabet's third-quarter results on October 28 showed Google Cloud revenue more than doubling to $30.7 billion, driven by demand for AI computing. Even so, Alphabet's shares fell more than 7% because total revenue and profit came in below Wall Street's expectations, while the company plans to keep spending heavily on AI infrastructure.

Why it matters for you: the AI tools you use run on these giant data centers. Huge investments mean faster, more capable AI, but also pressure on companies to raise prices or push paid plans.

5. Nvidia and AMD invest $4 billion in Meta

Nvidia will buy $3 billion and AMD $1 billion of Meta's new shares as Meta raises money for its massive AI build-out. Meta plans to deploy Nvidia's next-generation Vera Rubin platform, and AMD says its Helios rack systems are being tested at Meta.

Why it matters for you: the race to build AI infrastructure is turning chip makers and AI companies into partners. Expect even more AI features inside Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, the platforms where many small businesses sell.

Frequently asked questions

When will Anthropic shares start trading?

Reports suggest a listing in mid-November 2026, but the final date and price depend on the IPO process. This is not financial advice.

Can I use Mistral Large 4 for free?

The weights can be downloaded, but running a 1-trillion-parameter model needs powerful servers. Most people will use it through Mistral's API or partner platforms. Check the license if you plan commercial use.
